Russel M. Walters is the CTO of Somn Labs where he leads product, vision and strategy. He holds 20 patents, authored 30 peer-reviewed papers and earned his PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania while co-founding Ocular Technologies, a nanotech start-up. In 2003 Russel joined Johnson & Johnson, where he developed technologies in skin care. JnJ awarded Russel the Johnson Medal for innovation on mild cleansers.
Today, Russel researches complex and dynamic systems and creates intelligent healthcare technologies, like Johnson’s Bedtime Sleep app which has over 800,000 users. In 2016, he co-founded the Pediatric Sleep Council which launched babysleep.com, a global pediatric sleep advice platform as well as Nod, an AI driven baby sleep coach.
